Flute instruction that builds confident, independent musicians.

Individualized flute instruction for beginning through advanced students, combining strong musical fundamentals with healthy movement,

rhythmic understanding, and thoughtful technique.

The goal isn't simply to play the right notes—it's to give students the tools to understand what they're doing and become increasingly independent musicians.

THREE WAYS I HELP STUDENTS

Strong
Foundations

Technique, tone, rhythm and musicianship are developed together from the very beginning.

Healthy
Movement

Efficient, coordinated playing habits support comfort, control and confidence.

Independent
Musicianship

Students learn to hear and understand what they are doing--not just simply imitating what a teacher tells them.

MY APPROACH

Every student learns differently.  My goal is to discover what helps each student understand, feel and ultimately own the skills they are developing--not simply learn to play the right notes.

Over more than 30 years of teaching, my approach has continued to evolve through my study of Suzuki and Kodaly methodologies, healthy movement and Body Mapping, and most importantly, through listening to and learning from my students.  I integrate rhythm, movement, listening and technique so that musical understanding develops alongside physical skill.

I want students to know why something works, to recognize what they hear and feel, and eventually to become their own best teachers.  The result is not only better flute playing, but greater confidence, independence and enjoyment in making music.
